    Steel, thus, was the most efficient means for meeting the guidelines of the AASHO. The widespread use of steel beam and girder marks the beginning of large-scale bridge projects in Vermont. Steel beam and girder bridges can be broken down into several categories, discussed below. .   I am constructing a small one-lane bridge to span a small creek on a farm. The span of the bridge will be 24' from end-dam to end-dam. I am planning on using I-Beams longer than 24' so that they will extend past each end-dam.
